Hello and happy Woman Writer Crush Wednesday! Today I am celebrating one of my favorite women ever, Amy Poehler.
My love for Amy Poehler is about on par with my love of Tina Fey. Like Tina, Amy is a powerhouse to be reckoned with. She acts, she writes, she directs, she produces. Above all, she is funny.
A few weeks ago I finally got around to watching the final season of Parks and Rec, and OH MY it was such a perfect finale in every way. Parks and Rec manages to be continuously funny without ever being cruel or disparaging. I was always left feeling good after every episode. At the heart of the show is, of course, Amy Poehler. She imbues her character with a relentless optimism and vivacity that manages to make watching a show about government work concerning an Indiana town seem constantly fresh and engaging.
Poehler’s memoir Yes Please is as lively and funny as her sketches. One recommendation: listen to the audiobook. Poehler narrates it herself, and she brings along other famous guests. It is both down-to-earth and funnier than I can ever aspire to be. Five stars.
